Logan Library: A New Chapter in Community Engagement |
Innovative Design and Dynamic Programs Enrich Logan, Utah |
Logan, Utah, has ushered in a new era with the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Logan Library at 285 North Main Street.
On March 4, 2024, despite a winter storm, over 200 residents gathered to celebrate this milestone.
The event marked the culmination of years of planning and community collaboration.
The three-story facility boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Designed by a partnership between Portland's Hacker design studio and Logan's Design West architects, the library features a vibrant ground floor, an engaging second floor for teens and adults, and a serene third floor for quiet study.
Mayor Holly Daines highlighted the library's significance, stating, "This day has been a long time coming. We're delighted to finally open this facility to the public."
She acknowledged generous donors, including the Hansen Sisters Foundation, whose $1 million gift funded the Children's Area, and the Paul and Kim Willie Family Foundation, which supported the Library Plaza and its outdoor sculptures.
Since its opening, the Logan Library has become a hub of activity.
In April 2024, it hosted renowned children's authors and illustrators Caralyn and Mark Buehner, drawing families from across Cache Valley.
Additionally, the library organized a comic contest titled "Drawn to the Library," inviting community members to create comics highlighting what draws them to the library.
Submissions were displayed for public voting, with winners receiving graphic novels.
In May 2024, the library served as the venue for the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization's Safety Summit.
Local stakeholders gathered to discuss traffic and safety statistics, aiming to develop comprehensive safety action plans for Cache County.
To manage the rising costs of digital materials, the library implemented new borrowing limits in January 2025.
Patrons are now limited to five digital borrows per month, with a daily spending cap.
This measure ensures the sustainability of the library's digital offerings while continuing to provide valuable resources to the community.
Recognizing outstanding contributions to library services, the Cache Valley Library Association awarded the 2025 Library Hero Award to JaDene M. Denniston.
With 37 years as a school librarian and significant involvement with the Logan Library Board and Friends of the Logan Library, Denniston's dedication has profoundly impacted the community.
The Logan Library stands as a testament to the community's commitment to education, culture, and engagement.
Its innovative design and dynamic programs continue to enrich the lives of Logan residents, fostering a love for learning and connection. |
