Logan Residents Urged to Conserve Water Amid Rising Usage |
City officials call for mindful irrigation practices as water demand increases |
Logan is experiencing a hot, dry, and early summer, leading to a significant 14% increase in overall water use this spring and summer compared to the previous three years.
While our water system currently meets demand, this uptick underscores the need for conservation.
Outdoor irrigation presents the most substantial opportunity for reducing water consumption.
Residents are encouraged to inspect their sprinkler systems to ensure they are not watering sidewalks or driveways, repair any broken sprinkler heads, and eliminate other forms of outdoor water waste.
To alleviate weekday water demand, consider irrigating on Saturdays and Sundays when the system can more easily accommodate the required flows.
Implementing water-wise landscaping can also contribute to conservation efforts.
In 2024, Utah residents saved over 100 million gallons of water through landscape conversions, replacing three million square feet of lawn with water-efficient landscaping.
Programs like the Landscape Incentive Program offer rebates for such conversions, providing $1 to $3 per square foot in qualifying areas.
Additionally, the Utah Division of Water Resources has introduced a Low Water Use Guide alongside its Weekly Lawn Watering Guide, offering tailored recommendations for low-water-use grass varieties.
These resources help residents make informed decisions about their lawn watering practices, contributing to the conservation of our precious water resources.
By adopting these measures, Logan residents can play a crucial role in preserving our water supply during this challenging season.
Thank you for being water-wise!
