Bringing Joy and Hope: Cache County Christmas Car Project Gifts Seven Families with Cars and Presents |
The Cache County Christmas Car Project, founded by Jason and Kristie Hansen in 2016, is once again bringing holiday cheer to families in need by gifting refurbished vehicles.
This year, the project plans to donate seven cars, each filled with presents, to deserving recipients in Cache Valley.
The initiative began when the Hansens, with community support, gave away their first car during the 2016 holiday season.
Since then, the project has grown, relying on generous donations from individuals and businesses to repair and gift vehicles to families lacking reliable transportation.
Each car represents more than just a means of travel; it offers new opportunities for families to access jobs, education, and essential services.
Community involvement is crucial to the project's success. Local businesses contribute parts and services, while volunteers assist with repairs, wrapping gifts, and organizing surprise deliveries.
Ty and Kandice Mortinsen, for example, have supported the project since 2021, with Ty serving on the Cache County Search and Rescue alongside Jason Hansen.
Nominations for car recipients are accepted from September 1 to Thanksgiving Day each year.
The selection process involves reviewing nominations and coordinating with a designated "Elf"—a person who knows the nominee well—to ensure the surprise delivery goes smoothly.
The project not only provides essential transportation but also fosters a sense of community and generosity.
As the Hansens state, "Every car we repair and gift represents not just a vehicle, but a new opportunity for families to access jobs, education, and essential services." |
