The William A. Burnard Warming Center in Logan experienced a record attendance on opening night, highlighting the increasing demand for shelter services in Cache County.

The center, located at Saint John's Episcopal Church, saw nearly 30 people seeking refuge from freezing temperatures.

The homeless population in the county has significantly risen in recent years, with a lack of funding for hotel vouchers contributing to the heightened demand this year.

Amy Anderson, a Logan City Council member and chair of the Bear River Local Homeless Council, emphasized the need for more volunteers to support the growing number of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers are essential in providing overnight assistance from 7 p.m.

to 7 a.m., as they play a crucial role in ensuring that those in need have a warm place to stay.

Without volunteers, many individuals would be forced to sleep in unsafe conditions on the streets or in their cars.

To support the William A. Burnard Warming Center as an on-site or off-site volunteer, individuals can visit wabwarmingcenter.org/get-involved and sign up to help make a difference in the lives of those facing homelessness.
