In a historic achievement, the Ridgeline High School boys' swimming team clinched their inaugural Region 11 championship on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the South Davis Recreation Center in Bountiful.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the Riverhawks, who have been striving for this title since the program's inception.

Dominant Performances Propel Victory

The Riverhawks amassed a total of 422 points, outpacing their closest competitors, Sky View High School, which scored 363.5 points, and Mountain Crest High School, which finished with 339.5 points.

Key contributions came from several standout swimmers:

  • Marcus Caliendo: Secured first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.09 and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:49.44.

  • Alex Scott: Dominated the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 53.68 seconds, and earned third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.85 seconds.

  • Luke Heiner: Captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 23.14 seconds.

  • Wyatt Carlsen: Finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.64 and narrowly missed first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing at 1:03.24.

The team's relay squads also delivered impressive performances:

  • 200-yard freestyle relay: The team clinched first place with a time of 1:32.04.

  • 400-yard freestyle relay: The Riverhawks secured second place, finishing in 3:23.38, just behind Mountain Crest's 3:23.11.

A Historic Milestone

This championship is particularly significant as it represents the first Region 11 title for the Ridgeline boys' swimming program.

In previous seasons, the team had consistently been strong contenders but had not secured the top spot until now.

Looking Ahead

With the region title now in hand, the Riverhawks are setting their sights on the upcoming state championships scheduled for February 7-8 at Brigham Young University.

The team's recent performances have generated optimism for a strong showing at the state level.

Congratulations to the Ridgeline High School boys' swimming team on this historic accomplishment.

The dedication and hard work of the athletes, coaches, and supporters have culminated in a well-deserved championship.
