Logan Regional's Little Heroes Get a Champion: Meet the New Child Life Specialist

Ever walked into a hospital and felt like you were starring in a scary movie?

Now, imagine being a kid. Needles, scary machines, and doctors who speak a language you don't understand.

It's enough to make anyone want to run for the hills. But hold up, Logan Regional Hospital just pulled a move that's straight out of a superhero flick.

They've hired their first-ever certified child life specialist, Leticia Clegg, and she's about to change the game.

So, what's a child life specialist, you ask?

Think of them as the ultimate kid whisperers of the medical world.

They're not doctors or nurses; they're specially trained pros who help kids cope with the whole hospital experience.

We're talking about using play, education, and a whole lotta empathy to turn a scary situation into something a little less terrifying.

Leticia is one of only 70 certified child life specialists in the Intermountain Healthcare system, and she’s ready to make a difference right here in Logan.

Most people think hospitals are just about fixing what's broken.

But actually, the real magic happens when you treat the whole person, especially kids.

Leticia gets down on their level, explains what's happening in a way they understand, and helps them feel like they have some control in a world that suddenly feels very out of control.

 It's not just about distracting them; it's about empowering them.

Mark your calendars! On March 27th, from 3 to 5 pm, the DWS-sponsored Logan Office is throwing a mini Job Fair at 180 N. 100 W. Logan.

Think of it as speed dating, but instead of awkward small talk, you're pitching your skills to potential employers. And trust me, the lineup is looking juicy.

Operation: Find Beau a Home (Mission Possible!)

Alright, picture this: a fluffy, four-legged dude named Beau.

Sounds like a character from a Wes Anderson movie, right?

Except, instead of quirky adventures, Beau's starring in a real-life bummer. He's almost two, and get this – he's spent HALF his life chilling (or, more accurately, not chilling) in a shelter kennel.

Half! That's like doggy jail for a crime he didn't commit.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Shelters are nice places, they help dogs!" Sure, they do.

But imagine trading your cozy couch for a concrete slab. No thanks.

Beau's missing out on the good stuff: zoomies in the grass, sunbathing like a lizard, and maybe, just maybe, a human who sneaks him table scraps.

Dogs are simple creatures; a little love goes a long way. Seeing Beau's pleading eyes is like a punch to the gut.

Beau's a social butterfly (with the right crowd).

The shelter folks say he gets along with other non-dominant dogs.

So, if you've got a chill canine pal who needs a buddy, Beau could be your guy. Think of it as adopting a wingman for your current pup.

No dog? Maybe you're fresh off a heartbreak from losing a furry friend.

I get it.

But sometimes, the best way to heal is to open your heart again.

There's a Beau-sized hole in the universe waiting to be filled.
