What is the largest mammal on Earth?

This Father’s Day, Give the Gift That Can’t Be Wrapped πŸŽ£πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸ› οΈ

The best gift? It’s not a fancy tool set or a new tie (though, heyβ€”he’ll still smile and wear it proudly). It’s the moment you spend together.

It’s fishing at first light.
Fixing stuff side-by-side in the garage.
Laughing at the same story he’s told a hundred timesβ€”because you love it anyway.

This weekend, let’s celebrate the dads, stepdads, grandpas, and father figures who’ve been our steady hands, our loudest cheerleaders, and our built-in best friends.

Happy Father’s Day, Cache Valley. πŸ’™ Here's to the memories that matter most.

Turns out picking a university president is kind of a big deal (who knew?).

Utah State University is on the hunt for its next fearless leader, and the search committee actually wants your opinion.

Yes, you, the person in line at Swig with 3 kids in the backseat and a Diet Coke in hand.

Got thoughts on what the next USU president should be like? (Charismatic, strategic, and maybe able to survive a winter inversion?)

This is your shot to speak up before someone else’s second cousin ends up running the place.

πŸŽ“ Read the full scoop from The Herald Journal and find out how to share your two cents. (Bonus points if you work β€œAggie Ice Cream” into your feedback.)

There’s a new captain steering the behavioral health ship, and his name is Joshua Barson.

The Cache County Council just gave him the official thumbs-up to take the reins as Director of BRHD Behavioral Health.

Translation: he’ll be leading the charge on some of the biggest mental health challenges facing our community (and let’s be honest, that’s no small task).

Barson’s got the background, the experience, and apparently, the calm-under-pressure vibe we’d all like in someone heading up mental health services.

Good news for nature lovers, dog walkers, bird watchers, and folks who just like the smell of sagebrush after a rainβ€”Cache County’s locking down open space like it’s going out of style.

This time? A whopping 557 acres in Smithfield.

It’s the second major open-space buy in the last year, and it’s all about keeping our wide-open views… well, wide open.

So don’t expect condos or gas stations popping up here anytime soon. Just more room to roam, breathe, and maybe spot a deer or two.

Full story (and aerial views!) over on The Herald Journal.

Mark your calendar and bring your appetiteβ€”World Refugee Day is happening June 14 at Willow Park, and it’s not your average Friday night in Cache Valley.

From African drumming to Middle Eastern dancing, this event is packed with music, food, culture, and heart. It’s all about honoring the stories and resilience of refugees who now call our valley home.

Plus, you’ll get a chance to meet your neighbors, try something new (hello, global snacks!), and feel all the good feels.

Utah State University just teamed up with NASA (yes, that NASA) to test a hybrid rocket motorβ€”and spoiler alert: it worked.

Think less backyard bottle rocket, more "we might be onto the next big thing in space travel."

The test was loud, powerful, and wildly successful.

And because this is Cache Valley, of course it involved engineering students doing things that make the rest of us feel like we maybe should’ve paid more attention in physics.

🎣 The “Tackle Box Time Capsule” Hack

Here’s a creative twist on the usual Father’s Day fishing tripβ€”combine memories and minnows with this one-of-a-kind summer tradition:

🧰 What You’ll Need:

  • An old (or new!) tackle box

  • Index cards or small notepads

  • A few pens or markers

  • A thermos of Dad’s favorite drink

  • Snacks = mandatory

🐟 How It Works:

  1. Pack Up & Head Out to your favorite fishing spot, hiking trail, or backyard hammock.

  2. Write Down Memories on the cardsβ€”each person writes a favorite memory with Dad, a life lesson he taught, or something funny he always says.

  3. Seal & Stash Them in the tackle box. (Bonus: toss in a few photos, doodles, or "coupons" for things like yard work or making him breakfast.)

  4. Make It a Traditionβ€”each Father’s Day, open the box, read the old notes, and add new ones.

This hack costs next to nothing but becomes a keepsake he’ll treasure more than any necktie ever could. πŸ’™
