Standing Together for Officer Estrada & Sgt. Sorensen

Standing Together for Officer Estrada & Sgt. Sorensen
This week, Cache Valley gathers to honor two heroes and surround their families with love.

Our hearts are with the families we honor this week. We’ll be back to our regular Cache Valley Locals format next week. If you’d rather not receive future issues, you can unsubscribe here.

This week, Cache Valley feels quieter. The kind of quiet that follows heartbreak, when a community pauses to hold its breath and hold one another.

We are grieving together the loss of Officer Eric Estrada and Sergeant Lee Sorensen, two Tremonton police officers whose lives were cut short while serving and protecting the people they loved.

These men weren’t just uniforms on a street corner. They were dads at ballgames, friends at barbecues, neighbors who waved when you passed by.

They showed up when called—sometimes in the darkest, hardest moments—and now, in the wake of this tragedy, it is our turn to show up for them and for the families who must carry on without them.

The community will gather first for a public viewing on Wednesday, August 27, at Bear River High School from 3:00–7:00 p.m.

This is a chance for each of us—whether you knew them personally or simply want to pay your respects—to come, stand together, and say thank you.

Funeral services will follow at the Utah State University Spectrum, a place large enough to hold the thousands of heavy hearts that will fill it:

  • Officer Eric Estrada’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m.

  • Sergeant Lee Sorensen’s funeral will be held on Friday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m.

For those who cannot attend, FOX 13 News will broadcast both services live on-air and at fox13now.com, ensuring no one is left out of this moment of honor and remembrance.

This week isn’t about headlines or uniforms—it’s about people.

It’s about the Sorensen and Estrada families who have given more than most of us will ever be asked to give.

It’s about their fellow officers, who will put their badges on each morning with tears in their eyes but resolve in their hearts.

And it’s about all of us—choosing to stand shoulder to shoulder, to lift each other, and to promise that the sacrifice of these two remarkable men will never be forgotten.

So let us gather.

Let us grieve.

Let us honor.

And above all, let us continue the work Eric Estrada and Lee Sorensen gave their lives to—building a community that looks out for one another, that shows up in times of need, and that never lets love and gratitude go unsaid.

May their memory be a blessing.

May their service inspire us.

And may their families feel the strength of an entire valley walking beside them in the days and years to come.
